The ad hoc cruising caused traffic jams on many summer evenings, automobile accidents and included many cruisers drinking and driving. With the organizing of the Dream Cruise most of these bad influences simply disappeared. There are lots of porta johns along Woodward Ave in the more populated areas. Memorial Park in Royal Oak has a large bank of porta johns for the classic car show. One of the biggest gatherings will be at the Cruise’s epicenter, Memorial Park at 13 Mile and Woodward, where a variety of car clubs congregate. You’ll see anything from a hot pink 1955 Ford T-bird to a 1,000-horse Chevy Nova dragster to a striped 427 Shelby Cobra.

The Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise is the mothership of all car events. It's a celebration of Woodward Ave and car enthusiasm in the heart of the Motor City. I mean seriously, this incredible car cruise draws thousands of classic cars, muscle cars, trucks (and lots of crazy stuff) to thunder down Woodward Avenue between Pontiac and Ferndale. Behind the Woodward grandstands, attendees can also enjoy a variety of experiences on M1’s 87-acre property. Take a tire-smoking, tail-wagging, supercharged Dodge Hellcat thrill ride on M1’s 1.5-mile race track and skid pad. Or ogle displays of Metro Detroit's finest hot rods, muscle cars and trick trucks while noshing a hot dog and cola.

Where to park during the Woodward Dream Cruise?
Parking for this event can be found in one of six Birmingham parking structures; metered parking will also be available. To 5 p.m., this car show will take place in the Walgreens lot at Woodward Ave. and surrounding streets like Haynes to Adams Road, Worth Street to Woodward and Webster Street to Adams Road. Birmingham shops will be open, and there will be sponsor exhibits for spectators to enjoy. There are all sorts of events throughout the weekend, starting Friday. The event caps off a week of festivities — starting with Roadkill Nights in Pontiac Aug. 13 — that includes charity events, car club parades and the Detroit Three showing off their latest wares. The Dream Cruise is one of the largest outdoor automotive events in the world, drawing more than 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars from around the world. It links together nine cities on America’s oldest highway.

Expect the new, 670-horsepower Corvette Z06 — engorged with the most powerful, naturally aspirated V-8 production engine ever produced — to anchor a lot-full of the brand’s car and truck offerings. The Woodward Dream Parade is an escorted parade of 200 invited cars that will be cruising on Woodward Avenue and in downtown Pontiac. M1 Concourse will host its second annual Woodward Dream Show on Friday, August 19th in Pontiac with some 600 examples of the Cruise’s finest vehicles. In particular, the event will celebrate 90 years of the 1932 Ford “Deuce”, 100 years of the Lincoln brand, and 55 years of the Pontiac Firebird.
Dodge isn’t the only manufacturer with a big presence at the Cruise. With so many car people on Woodward, the event is catnip for companies seeking to show off their latest toys. SMART bus encourages passengers to plan ahead before their trips due to possible delays leading up to the cruise and the day of the event. From noon to 7 p.m., live music will be performed in the arena next to the biergarten. Purchasing a ticket includes no charge on parking and shuttle, and a better view to see the cars up-close. Visitors will be able to purchase food, and official Woodward Dream Cruise merchandise all day.

These busses will still pass by and stop in the communities along the parade route, but will avoid Woodward Avenue. The bus is $2 per person to ride and is good for four hours.
